SOL CAMPBELL has become a virtual prisoner in his own home as the hate campaign waged against him threatens to boil over.
The Arsenal defender has been forced into emergency measures to counter threats of trouble including a state-of-the-art security system at his home and even a 24-hour bodyguard.
Fears were increased after a sinister development last night when Campbell's mobile telephone number was posted on the internet by furious fans along with the suggestion that readers call and abuse him.
The England star has already installed a powerful pounds 100,000 anti-intruder system at his home and now Arsenal are considering hiring a minder for the 26-year- old until the anger over his free transfer move calms down.
Ironically, two of Campbell's brothers are nightclub doormen.
The hatred among Tottenham supporters after Campbell's decision to sign for the club's biggest rivals grew last night despite a plea for understanding from the player - and a fresh defence of his move by agent Sky Andrew.
