MCC Hires Faculty to Meet Growing Enrollment

As the result of increasing enrollment and the passage of a referendum in November, McHenry County College recently hired 22 new faculty members.
Nine of the faculty are in newly created positions, while the college hired the other 13 to fill vacancies resulting from retirements or resignations.
Dennis Massey, MCC's vice president of academic affairs, said this is the largest hiring increase in the college's history.
Last year, MCC had to leave several positions open after voters did not pass a referendum in April 2000.
The college then came back in November and again asked voters for a $2.5 million tax increase. This time it was successful, and the college immediately began to conduct faculty searches and interviews.
MCC enrollment has increased steadily in the last several years. The college has seen a 5.5 percent student credit hour increase this year for a total of approximately 43,000 hours.
As a result, several new positions were created in some popular core areas such as philosophy, earth science and Spanish, and MCC also decided to expand some of its programs this year. …
