The International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECoP) discuss at 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today with chief executive officers (CEOs) of selected corporations and other captains of industry the global compact which was launched by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on Jan. 31, 1999 at a world economic forum.
Annan has proposed a global compact between the UN and the world business community to help build the social and environmental pillars to sustain the new global economy and make globalization work for all the world's peoples.
ECoP President Donald G. Dee and Uddesh Kohli, senior adviser to the UN Secretary General on the Global Compact Initiative, are expected to lead the discussion of the various aspects of the global compact.
During the forum to be held at the New World Renaissance Hotel in Makati City, the global compact itself will be explained, experiences of other countries will be showcased; and an interactive discussion among participants will be given time that should enable ECoP to formulate a roadmap for future actions and build the necessary institutional support systems to carry them through. …
