Orchard Road Construction in Wheaton Pushed Back

The reconstruction of Orchard Road in Wheaton has been put off until next spring because of a delay in relocating utility lines along the roadway.
The city had hoped to have the project well under way by now, but crews have yet to finish moving the phone, cable and other lines.
Ameritech, AT&T Broadband and ComEd are moving their lines to new poles near the Brighton Drive intersection. The intersection is scheduled to have turn lanes .
Plans call for the reconstruction of more than a mile of Orchard between the Illinois Prairie Path and Butterfield Road. Some turn lanes and a new sidewalk will be added, but the road will not be widened or upgraded with curbs and gutters.
Some hilly areas will also be lowered to create better sight lines for drivers. That required Nicor and other companies to move underground utility lines, said City Engineer Paul Redman. …
