Must See TV: The Best on TV This Week

Byline: David Spedding

POPSTARS IN THEIR EYES Saturday, ITV, 6.10pm

A nice twist on the familiar format sees already-famous singing stars, such as A1, Belinda Carlisle and Steps' Claire, walking through the dry ice dressed up as their pop idols. Look out for Sonique's dazzling take on Donna Summer and enjoy Boy George having fun with David Bowie (not literally, you understand).

AN AUDIENCE WITH KYLIE MINOGUE

Saturday, ITV, 9.10pm

The "Audience With" format has recently evolved from a Q&A session to more of a performance showcase, but we have no problem with that when the performer is Kylie. One and a half hours of perfect pop, then, plugging her rather splendid new album, Fever, with even Kermit The Frog getting up onstage for a duet. Good, glitzy fun. See feature, page ten.

LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND

NEW Friday, BBC2, 11.35pm

The excellent live music showcase returns for a brand new series. There's exciting stuff to come in future weeks with Pulp, Garbage, Travis and New Order all on the guest-list. This week's show kicks off with Mercury Award-winner PJ Harvey and strange-but-genius outfit Spiritualized. Oh, and Jools (above right) is back on the old Joanna, obviously.

POP IDOL NEW Saturday, ITV, 7.10pm

Never let it be said that programme-makers don't know how to milk a successful format. Here is the long-awaited solo version of Popstars, with none other than Darius included in the hopefuls. Dr Fox and Pete "Hitman" Waterman weed out the dross from the genuinely talented, but viewers choose the winner.

TRIPS MONEY CAN'T BUY WITH EWAN MCGREGOR

Sunday, BBC1, 9pm

Ewan ditches the glamour of Moulin Rouge for ten days in the jungle in this one-off special. And it's no picnic. Still, it's hard to imagine any other actor handling it so well. See feature, page six.

THE FATTEST MEN IN BRITAIN: REAL LIFE

Tuesday, ITV, 10.20pm

"Does my bum look big in this?" No, mate, it looks huge. Who's the fattest - Jack, who has cultivated a sense of pride in his enormity and the fame it has brought, or reigning champ Barry, who is less than happy about his 71-inch waist? See feature, page 15.

MODEL BEHAVIOUR Wednesday, C4, 6pm

It lacks the pulling power of Soapstars, but actors were always going to provide more exhibitionist value than sulky teenage girls. Even so, now the wannabes have been whittled down to five finalists, things are hotting up as they face the "real" world of catwalks and trips abroad.

DRESSED TO KILL: THE DOWNFALL OF JANE ANDREWS Thursday, C4, 9pm

Jane Andrews, Fergie's former dresser, was found guilty of murdering her lover earlier this year. …
