FIVE Serbs were jailed yesterday after being convicted of running this concentration camp whose starving inmates shocked the world.
The men were sentenced to between five and 25 years for their roles at the prison camp at Omarska in Bosnia where hundreds of prisoners were raped, tortured and murdered.
Photographs of the half-naked, starving captives were published across the world in 1992 proving that the Serbs were carrying out ethnic cleansing in Bosnia.
Judge Almire Rodrigues, of the United Nations war crimes tribunal at the Hague, told the five yesterday: "You all knew about or participated in rape and murder. It was a hellish orgy of persecution."
He said what happened at Omarsk was part of a "widespread system of camps intended to wipe out the non-Serb population of the area".
About 6,000 Muslims and Croats were held at Omarska and two similar camps near the mining town of Prijedor.
They were beaten and starved and many men were castrated in daily torture sessions. …
