McKinney Brothers Top Limousin Herd


THE Northern Ireland Limousin Club announced the winners of various competitions at their annual dinner dance, held recently in Corick House, Clogher.

The club was pleased that sponsors of each competition, Stephen Smith, Ulster Bank (Stock Judging), Anne Greaves, Northern Bank (Photograph) and Peter Mackle, Natural Nutritions (Herd) were able to be present.

The Herd competition, sponsored also by Savoury Foods, was judged by Derek Frew of Ballymena, who was very impressed by the quality of stock throughout the Province.

This year the Club, in recognition of the outstanding and tireless work of their President John Gordon made a special presentation - The Presidents Salver - to be awarded for the Best Stock Bull within the competition.

The results were as follows:

Large Herd 1st McKinney Brothers, Maghera (Heathmount); 2nd C & F McAuley, Toomebridge (Carmorn); 3rd H & J McCracken, Ballywalter (Seaview).

Medium Herd 1st Jim Quail, Banbridge (Lynderg); 2nd R & D Campbell, Templepatrick (Ashmore); 3rd S Mackean, Dunadry, Antrim (Sweetwall)

Small Herd 1st T Robinson, Ballymena (Teeshan); 2nd S Cunningham, Kilkeel (Crandale); 3rd J Baird, Scarva (Sylvandene)

Special prizes Best Young Bull - Agriculture Cup C & F McAuley Best Group of Calves Born 2001 - Breeders Cup McKinney Brothers Best Group of Calves Born 2001 By Stock Bull - Coleman Shield Wm Crowe Best Cow Family - Coleman Shield John Adams for the "Ita" Family Best Stock Bull - Presidents Salver Jim Quail for "Ludo"

The results of the Photograph Competition were also announced with John Adams taking first place in the Senior Section closely followed by Jim Scott in second place and Myrtle Rutherford in Third.

The McAuley family swept the boards for the Junior categories taking all the placings except the Under-12 first prize which went to the Barr brothers, Adam & Andrew of Ballymena. …
