Grant Boost for Maritime Training Centre

A NEW training centre for the maritime industry will soon open in Pwllheli, following Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor's success in attracting substantial capital funding to promote engineering in the Dwyfor area.
"This funding from ELWa will allow us to promote engineering in small and larger companies, " said the college's principal, Dr Ian Rees.
"We are looking forward with great excitement to being able to offer training for the marine sector, the food manufacturing and processing sectors, and other engineering-related companies." he added.
With a grant of more than pounds 400,000 the college will establish a Marine Training Centre at the Hafan Marina in Pwllheli, and will also purchase specialist equipment to enable it to train the staff of such companies as South Caernarfon Creameries and Harlech Frozen Foods etc.
"This development will enable the college to support local engineering industries in real terms, " said the college's director of enterprise and business development, Rhianwen Edwards.
