Nearby Districts Ready to Brainstorm on Round Lake Bill

Officials in school districts adjacent to Round Lake Unit District 116 are meeting today, just in case a proposal to preserve District 116's boundaries hits a bump in the road.
A state bill proposing to create a five-member finance authority to oversee District 116 is expected to be in the Illinois Senate next week after passing out of an education committee Wednesday, said Tony Ficarelli, an attorney representing a consortium of six school districts neighboring District 116.
Ingleside-based Gavin and Big Hollow elementary school districts, Grayslake District 46, Lake Villa District 41 and Grant and Grayslake high school districts formed the consortium over concerns the state would dissolve financially-strapped District 116. The consortium fears District 116 could be dissolved into one or more of its districts.
So far, the proposal to put a financial authority in place at District 116 has moved along intact through the Legislature. Key lawmakers pushing for the proposal include state Sens. William Peterson, Terry Link, and Adeline Geo-Karis and state Rep. …
