RANGERS striker Claudio Caniggia is confident of winning his fitness battle to face Nigeria in Argentina's World Cup opener.
Caniggia's hopes of playing in Japan looked dead and buried when he left the Scottish Cup final a fortnight ago with knee ligament damage.
Argentine boss Marcelo Bielsa has stood by the Rangers strijer despite attracting fierce criticism for picking Caniggia ahead of Barcelona's Javier Saviolar.
The 34-year-old striker holds a special place in Argentine hearts however after his brave displays at Italia 90 where his goal knocked out hosts Italy in the semi-final.
Caniggia has received intensive treatment over the last fortnight and is hoping to be fit to face England, Sweden and Nigeria.
"The injury I got on my left knee in the match against Celtic was as if someone was opening the door to my retirement," Caniggia admitted.
"However I can only see football in one way and that is to fight until the end and not to be scared. …
