Pupils 'Are Being Fed Only PC Geography'
SCHOOL pupils are being brainwashed with politically correct geography lessons instead of learning facts, according to a report.
Children are leaving secondary school knowing 'everything about pollution but nothing about rivers or mountains'.
This is because teachers are promoting green values over knowledge, according to a study from the Canterbury Christ Church University College in Kent.
The research comes as the Government revealed that it is to reduce the number of teacher training places in geography from 1,000 in 2002/3 to 985 in 2005/6.
The study is based on interviews with 50 geography teachers and an examination of the national curriculum and textbooks used in secondary schools.
Eighty- four per cent of teachers agreed there was a greater emphasis on values today and 68 per cent said fewer facts were taught now compared to previous years.
Two-thirds thought that teaching about 'sustainable lifestyles' was more important than teaching basic skills such as reading maps.
But one teacher told researchers: 'We already teach as if we were the action wing of Greenpeace. …
