United Mystery; US Man Linked to Irish Interest

A MYSTERY American businessman has emerged as another key player in the potential takeover at Manchester United.
Richard Post, based in Washington, bought nearly two per cent of United through an Irish stockbroking company last year but his name has only just emerged.
The fact he used an Irish firm, Goodbody, will inevitably link him to racehorse owners JP McManus and John Magnier who, it was announced yesterday , have increased their stake at United to 10.37 per cent.
That makes the Irish duo, close friends of Sir Alex Ferguson, the largest shareholders at Old Trafford, taking over from BSkyB, who own 9.9 per cent.
Research has thrown up background on a number of businessman called Richard Post.
One was a former high-ranking CIA man who worked with the investigations company Kroll Associates and the Anglo-Asian trading conglomerate Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong in early 1990s. It is not yet confirmed that this is the man who bought into United.
The City is rampant with speculation that Magnier and McManus are preparing a takeover bid and will install Ferguson as chairman when he finishes as a manager. …
