Fire Safety Experts Meet at SOPI Confab
Fire safety experts from the government and the private sector will meet today and tomorrow to discuss ways to prevent destructive fires as well as new trends and techniques in fire-fighting at the 30th National Fire Safety Convention at the Manila Midtown Hotel.
The opening ceremonies of the twoday convention organized by the Safety Organization of the Philippines Inc. (SOPI) in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will start at 8:30 this morning.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jose Lina Jr. will be the keynote speaker while Manila Mayor Lito Atienza will deliver the welcome remarks. SOPI national president Mario Tanchanco will deliver the opening remarks.
The BFP is sending a big delegation led by BFP head Chief Supt. Francisco S. Senot to the twoday convention that is part of this year's observance of Fire Prevention Month. Senot is scheduled to discuss today the thrust of the fire service this year.
The convention will focus on how to promote fire safety at home and in the workplace.
Statistics from the BFP show that majority of destructive fires have been due to carelessness or negligence, with electrical overload or arching as the main cause of such fires. …
