Kiski Area Comes Back to Beat Hempfield

Hempfield was in control for most of Friday night's non- conference game against Kiski Area at Vandergrift's Davis Field.
But a 55-yard punt return by sophomore Tyrique Godson and a subsequent 2-point conversion run by Bret Gunn was enough to lift Kiski Area to a 22-21 victory.
Kiski Area is 3-1, while Hempfield slipped to 1-3.
Hempfield outrushed Kiski Area, 323-94, and the Spartans scored on three consecutive possessions. But it wasn't enough.
"In this game, nothing's under control until the 48 minutes run out," Hempfield coach Greg Meisner said. "The kid made a nice return, but we practice all week not kicking the ball to the middle of the field. Somebody's get to step up and make a play."
Godson's return pulled Kiski Area to within 21-20.
As the Cavaliers lined up for the extra point, Hempfield stepped offsides, and Kiski Area decided to go for two points. Gunn barely made it over the goal line, but his burst gave the Cavaliers the lead.
"I told our returners to make sure they catch the thing, and we'll get good field position. And I see they let it bounce," Kiski Area coach Chris Heater said. "But that was maybe one of the best plays on this field in a long, long time. And what a time for a spark.
Godson received the game ball from Heater during the post-game field huddle. …
