Children's Medical Research Institute, Choctaw Fund Chair in Diabetes at Univ. of Oklahoma

In 2003, the Children's Medical Research Institute began a campaign to raise $30 million.
The goal included $15 million for childhood cancer research and $15 million for childhood diabetes research. The campaign, which was planned for five years, is already nearing its goal.
Now, $500,000 raised in that campaign is being used to help fund a $2 million endowed chair in pediatric diabetes at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
The $2 million endowment also includes a $500,000 gift from the Choctaw Nation. The combined $1 million from the Choctaw Nation and CMRI will be eligible for matching funds from the State Regents Endowment Program.
"This gift will allow the recruitment to Oklahoma of physician scientists who have dedicated their careers to diabetes research and treatment, and is certain to pay great dividends to every Native American child, and in fact every child in the state afflicted with diabetes," said Kenneth Copeland, Ruth & Paul Jonas chair in endocrinology/diabetes at the OU Health Sciences Center and the principal investigator for the children's diabetes research program. …
