McKeesport Salutes Scaife, Santa

Keisha Brown hooked her thumbs through the tan suspenders and surveyed her late-19th century newsboy costume as she waited for Saturday's 44th annual Salute to Santa Parade in McKeesport to kick off.
"I feel so trendy," said Brown, 15, of McKeesport. "I like bringing back the old styles."
Brown and fellow LaRosa Boys & Girls Club members led the parade down Fifth Avenue with grand marshal and Tribune-Review owner Dick Scaife. The "newsies" distributed souvenir issues of The Daily News while Scaife tossed candy and waived enthusiastically to the cheering crowds lining the street.
In May 2007, Scaife purchased The Daily News, published in McKeesport since 1884, adding it to Trib Total Media, the Pittsburgh area's largest newspaper group.
"Mr. Scaife was kind enough to come in and buy our Daily News and keep it open," McKeesport Mayor James Brewster told the crowd as the parade stopped at the grandstand.
He then surprised Scaife with a large golden key.
"We want to make him an honorary member of our city by giving him the key to the city," Brewster said.
After completing the parade route waving from an open convertible, Scaife was looped back to the beginning to watch the rest of the parade. …
