Marketing Pros Donate Skills to Nonprofits: Norman Firm Encouraging Other Businesses to Lend Service

Since Bramlett & Associates Multimedia in Norman was formed in 2002, operating partners Krystyn Bramlett and Leslie Wiggins Christopher have worked with area nonprofit, church and ministry groups as volunteers and providing services at reduced rates.

This summer they expanded their nonprofit efforts by forming a nonprofit marketing club to help representatives of nonprofit organization improve marketing and public relations efforts. Services were provided pro bono.

"Many nonprofit agencies are not able to hire a full-time marketing person," Christopher said. "We can help them learn professional marketing techniques."

The club started during the summer with representatives from 15 nonprofit agencies attending an orientation meeting. Representatives of 10 agencies participated in group meetings over the next four months.

After the success of the nonprofit marketing club, Bramlett and Christopher declared 2009 to be a year of giving and have challenged other Norman area businesses to consider how they can work with nonprofit groups and encourage a spirit of giving in the workplace.

"We hope larger companies will consider donating their time in proportion to their staff," Bramlett said.

The staff at the marketing and advertising consulting company has created a Facebook group - Norman Businesses Give Back - as a forum for efforts by area businesses to promote volunteerism.

Services donated by companies could include almost any service including plumbing or accounting, Christopher said.

"Many nonprofit agencies do not have an accountant on staff," she said.

Bramlett and Christopher also plan to expand their company's volunteer efforts.

Beginning this year Bramlett & Associates will offer 8 hours of creative production and consulting work to nonprofit organizations on a first-come first-served basis.

"We know that nonprofits are short on resources, but we don't want that to be reflected in poor design or bad marketing that results in lower rates of giving," Christopher said. "This is one way we can help. …
