Four search warrants were unsealed Tuesday detailing a state police investigation into the April slayings of three women who were found shot to death inside a Loyalhanna Township business.
Troopers have now served seven warrants in connection with the probe, which is focusing on a relative of the victims, according to court records.
Kris Lynn Murphy, 43, her mother, Doris Lee Martin Murphy, 69, both of Conemaugh, Indiana County; and Edith Tietge, 81, of Loyahanna, were found shot in the head with a .22-caliber handgun April 23 inside Ferguson Glass, a family-operated business near Loyalhanna Lake. Tietge and Doris Murphy were sisters.
The women were found in a garage bay "with blood all over the place," according to one of the warrants.
In addition to a .22-caliber handgun, other evidence seized by police at the garage included blood, a tuft of brown hair, a pair of broken eyeglasses, notes and a notebook, a three-ring binder, a prescription for Viagra, a cell phone, two pocket knives, a spent .22-caliber shell casing, a box of 19 live .22-caliber bullets, a woman's bra and a black purse belonging to Doris Murphy containing $484, according to one warrant.
The warrants indicate investigators are focusing on 48-year-old Kevin Murphy, the son of Doris Murphy and brother of Kris Murphy. Tietge was his aunt. Kevin Murphy owned the auto glass business, according to state records, and his mother, sister and aunt worked there.
Police suspect the murder weapon was a .22-caliber magnum revolver that investigators found hidden inside a machine at the business, according to the warrants.
An employee at Ferguson Glass told state police that Kevin Murphy had brought a gun to work the day before the killings and hid it at the garage. The employee said only Murphy, his mother and sister knew where the gun had been stashed, according to a warrant.
Troopers seized the computer at the business because "it will enable investigators to establish a time line of events leading up to, and directly following the incident," according to the warrant.
Investigators were searching for any electronic communication between Kevin Murphy and the victims that "may establish a motive," an affidavit accompanying the warrant states. …
