New Eagle Planning Centennial Celebration

When Linda Hall called a few residents for help with organizing a centennial celebration of the borough's founding, many could not believe it has been nearly 25 years since the community's diamond jubilation in 1987.
That event brought the community together and led to a citizens' group that is still active today.
Hall, the borough secretary, is seeking volunteers to help with the 100th anniversary of New Eagle, tentatively planned for the second weekend in September 2012 at Larry "Tubby" Hall Park.
Volunteers for the New Eagle Centennial Committee will decide entertainment for the event and update the book about New Eagle that was first printed for the diamond jubilee.
Those interested in serving on the centennial committee are asked to submit their name, address and telephone number to the borough offices.
The 2012 celebration is just in the planning stages, Hall said. The initial meeting of the centennial committee is set for June.
A contest will be open to all Ringgold students to design a logo for the centennial souvenir t-shirts. Prizes will be awarded for the best design from elementary, middle and high school students.
"Again, that gets the community involved in all of this," Hall said.
Finding volunteers has seemingly never been an issue in New Eagle. Those who helped plan the diamond jubilee in 1987 became the core for the formation of New Eagle Community Action.
