Montgomery and company

Local roots troubadour Dan Montgomery , backed by the New Orleans- transplanted husband-and-wife duo Robert and Candace Mache , returns to Otherlands . Local songwriting dean Rob Jungklas and newcomer Kris Acklen open .

Playground patter

In Yasmina Reza's Tony-winning play "God of Carnage," two sets of parents meet to discuss their children's violent behavior on the playground. As the evening wears on, however, the parents themselves become increasingly volatile. Playhouse on the Square's local premiere of the 2009 drama stars Kim Justis Eikner ("August: Osage County") and Michael Gravois ("The Drowsy Chaperone").

Going Green

St. Patrick's Day is being marked on Beale Street and elsewhere with music and other festivities. At 3 p.m., Beale Street hosts its 38th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade beginning at Fourth Street and ending at Second. Midtown bar Murphy's (1589 Madison) kicks off its 35th anniversary celebration of St. Patrick's Day about 3 p.m. with the ceremonial blessing of the kegs, and features live music inside and outside stretching well into the night. Free admission. Call (901) 726-4193. The Irish fun starts at 11:30 a.m. at Celtic Crossing (903 S. Cooper), with four bands playing on the patio as well as Irish dancers and bagpipers. And, finally, one of the city's newer Irish pubs, The Brass Door (152 Madison), closes off the alley to its east and sets up a stage for a full day of music with a half-dozen bands starting at noon. Jamille on Jazz

Local jazz vocalist Jamille Hunter has sung all over the world, from her rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Los Angeles' Dodgers Stadium to gigs at Japan's most prestigious jazz club. S he marks the release of her debut EP, In the Sun , at Opinions Restaurant & Lounge .

Muslim football

"Undefeated" with a twist, "Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football" is a documentary set in Dearborn, Mich., that follows the football team at Fordson High School, where 90 percent of the student body is Muslim. A 2011 Slamdance Film Festival award winner, the movie presents a portrait of a tightknit Arab-American community that faces suspicion from outsiders, even as its young people pursue the most "all-American" of activities, balanced with cultural traditions (despite the rigors of the sport, the football players must fast during Ramadan, which falls in the middle of the season). …
