Teachers Approve Salary, Contract; 4.5 Percent Wage Increase Included

Teachers who are members of the Fort Zumwalt Education Association have approved a salary and contract agreement for next school year.
The teachers voted Thursday to accept the agreement, which calls for an average salary increase of 4.5 percent across the salary schedule. Teachers with the most experience and education at the top of the scale will receive the largest percentage increase.
The association has about 485 members. The district employees 669 teachers.
Nancy Bergfeld, head of the association, says the number of steps at each level of the salary schedule will remain the same - so that teachers will continue to progress to the top levels.
Members of the Fort Zumwalt School Board previously approved the one-year agreement, which calls for beginning teachers with no experience to receive the same salary as this year, $23,187. Teachers with a doctorate and 18 years experience will jump to $48,933 from $46,603. Other raises are spread along the schedule with no level other than the first level receiving less than a 3. …
