LARAMIE - The University of Wyoming men's basketball team is going camping.Not camping in the mountains, and not hosting a camp for other players.Friday was the first day of what coach Larry Shyatt described as a "mini-camp" to prepare UW for its exhibition tour to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where it will play four games against Canadian universities Aug. 5-11.The Cowboys are allowed 10 days prior to that trip to prepare. They also will practice today and Sunday."I'm trying to show the seven new players what a typical weekend would be like in October," Shyatt said. "This will be fun for me and not so much fun for them."UW returns to individual workouts for two weeks starting Monday. New NCAA rules allow coaches to work with players two hours a week during an eight-week period in the summer.The team resumes its Canada preparations July 23-24 and uses its final five practice days July 31-Aug. 4.The emphasis in the 10 practices?"Because of the timing, with seven new players, the only thing we can actually practice and apply in Canada would be our defensive principles," Shyatt said. "We can't ask the other coaches in Canada how they're going to defend us. If we put a lot of time into our man offense or our zone offense, and we play somebody that plays at 1-3-1 zone four straight nights, we would have wasted time. …
