Rittenhouse, Amanda, The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)
Bartlett resident Mable Barringer, executive director of the National Kidney Foundation of West Tennessee, has been chosen as the recipient of the Crossroads Hospice "Caring More" award.
Social workers provide daily support to their patients, but few receive special recognition for their tireless efforts. In a move to honor social workers and their advocacy for those in need, Crossroads Hospice launched the "Caring More" award for a social worker who goes above and beyond for his/her patients and community.
At a breakfast in her honor, Barringer received $500 to present to the National Kidney Foundation of West Tennessee.
As executive director of the National Kidney Foundation of West Tennessee, Barringer was instrumental in bringing a new screening program from the National Kidney Foundation to Memphis. Through her leadership, the Kidney Early Evaluation Program has screened more than 1,500 people in Shelby County for warning signs of kidney disease.
Barringer is a recipient of the National Kidney Foundation Affiliate Award for Comprehensive Excellence for implementing the KEEP prevention program across Tennessee. …
