Gymnastics team gets another chance
The Hampton Township School District again will have a high school gymnastics team.
The school board reinstated the program on Monday with an 8-1 vote, with Larry Vasko dissenting. Gymnasts and parents at the meeting applauded.
Athletic Direct Bill Cardone and the athletics department proposed the move after identifying 12 to 15 girls interested in a district team. The prior team competed in the 1970s and 1980s before disbanding. In recent years, the school district has sponsored individual athletes in WPIAL and PIAA meets.
Cardone said money is in the athletics budget to support a team, and that the district must hire a coach before the season starts on Nov. 18. Practices and home meets would be held at Jewart's Gymnastics, in Hampton.

The award goes to an individual published in Pennsylvania Administrator magazine, who provides quality information services to organization members. Taranto has been CMS principal for eight years, and is an adjunct faculty member at California University of Pennsylvania's Administrator Program for Principals.
