The Manchester College Launches Apprenticeship Campaign Devised by Secondary School Students ; A Team of Young People from Manchester Academy Have Been Crowned Winners of the Manchester College's 'You Tell Us' Competition to Encourage More Young People to Consider Apprenticeships in the Creative and Digital Industries


PUPILS from Manchester Academy have been announced as the winners of the 'You Tell Us' competition organised by The Manchester College.

The group was tasked with developing an original marketing campaign based around Apprenticeships in the creative and digital industries.

The students were given a brief to raise awareness of Apprenticeships amongst young people, to increase the number of applications for Level 3 or above Apprenticeships and encourage employers to create more Apprenticeship opportunities.

More than 100 young people from nine secondary schools across Greater Manchester have been involved in the competition, including Prestwich Arts College, Manchester Creative Studio and Moorside High School.

They have been working hard to create logos, creative designs, advertisements and inspiring campaigns that illustrate the fantastic Apprenticeship opportunities available to young people.

Each school was supported by The Manchester College, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and 15 local businesses to develop their campaigns, with the winner selected by a panel made up of experts from each of these groups.

The project was funded through the City Deal Apprenticeship Hub, in partnership with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the Skills Funding Agency and economic development agency New Economy.

Manchester Academy's submission came out on top after an extensive assessment process. It focuses on the concept of 'digital natives' - young people who were born in the Information Age - and how their 'digital DNA' makes them ideally suited to digital careers.

WELL RESEARCHED AND INVENTIVE Trudy Burrows, The Manchester College's Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Training, said: "The College was extremely impressed by the quality and creativity of the submissions, and all of the schools should be very proud of their work.

"Overall we thought that Manchester Academy created a campaign that was well researched and inventive - it just stood out from the rest."

The winning campaign will be launched next week and will include social media, online and print advertising, and the use of digital billboards across Greater Manchester.

Marina Bowden, Employability Skills Adviser at Manchester Academy, said: "We're delighted to have taken first place in this exciting competition. Our students worked exceptionally hard, learning a significant amount about Apprenticeships, the creative and digital sector, how to create a marketing campaign and they built up essential transferable skills with local businesses. …
