PREP FOOTBALL - WEEK 4 ; PREP ROUNDUP; Hurricane Comes Up Short at Brooke; Sissonville Shuts out Scott


Hurricane scored 20 unanswered points in the second half, but failed to convert a 2-point conversion after a late touchdown Friday night as it fell 28-27 at Brooke. The Redskins (3-1) got off to a slow start and trailed 28-7 at the half.

Brooke's Thomas Cole returned a Hurricane fumble 29 yards for a score and broke off a 44-yard touchdown run and Koty Hudson scored from a yard out as the Bruins scored 28 straight points over the second and third quarters.

Hurricane responded as Nick Williams hauled in touchdown passes of 14 and 11 yards from Blake Stover and Ethan Highlander found the end zone on a 7-yard run with 1:38 remaining, but Stover's pass on the 2-point conversion was incomplete.

"Our kids played their hearts out, said Hurricane coach Jeremy Taylor. "They were down 28-7 and everything that could go wrong in the first half, did. They could've laid down, but they didn't. Our kids played great and they deserved to win, but we just came up short in the end.

Stover connected on 18 of 33 passes for 166 yards and two TDs against one interception and rushed for another score, while Williams caught six passes for 86 yards and Highlander gained 52 yards on 12 totes for the Redskins (3-1).

Hudson hit on 14 of 21 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown and Cole caught seven passes for 74 yards to lead the Bruins (2-2)

Sissonville 40, Scott 0: Jared Wilkinson rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries as Sissonville (1-3) cruised to a road win, the initial victory for first-year coach Marc Wilson.

Wilkinson scored on runs of 5, 11 and 56 yards, Alex Bruce added a 30-yard rushing TD and Chance Brown ran for a 32-yard score to lead the Indians, who gained 311 yards on the ground.

Brown finished with 76 yards on 11 carries and Bruce ran for 43 yards on just three attempts.

Austin Mitchell led the Skyhawks (1-3), gaining 50 yards on 11 carries, and Codie Loftus ran for 23 yards on eight attempts.

Chapmanville 55, Poca 14: Unbeaten Chapmanville (4-0) piled up 649 yards on offense and picked up a lopsided road win at Poca.

Dylan Smith gained 131 rushing yards on just four carries for the Tigers, including a 79-yard touchdown run, and added two receptions for 58 yards, including a 20-yard score.

Chapmanville quarterback Alex Berry completed 10 of his 12 passes with four touchdowns. William Shepherd, Noah Dingess and Jacob Dingess also had scoring receptions and Tanner Dillon rushed for 105 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown, for the Tigers. …
