Top four the same in CFP rankings

Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame remained at the top of the College Football Playoff selection committee rankings released Tuesday night.

Iowa stayed at No. 5 and Oklahoma State moved up to No. 6, one spot ahead of Big 12 rival Oklahoma.

Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State seem to have control of their playoff hopes. If those three win out it looks as if they should be in.

The highest ranked Pac-12 team was Stanford at No. 11. The Pac- 12 will need a lot of help to avoid being left out of the final four the way the Big 12 was last season.

Clemson WR Williams doubtful to return * Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said a medical official would have to "sign off in blood" for the Tigers to play injured receiver Mike Williams this season.

Swinney said he does not believe Williams will play again this fall.

Williams was the top-ranked Tigers' 1,000-yard receiver who was injured in the first quarter of the first game this season. Williams collided with the goalpost support and sustained a neck fracture.

Swinney said Williams will soon have a soft neck brace off and has been cleared for some running. Still, the coach would want to have overwhelming medical opinions that the junior was completely healthy before allowing him back on the field.

Williams' prognosis is for a full recovery and Swinney said he's protecting the players' potential football career.

TCU's Boykin, Doctson questionable * TCU coach Gary Patterson says quarterback Trevone Boykin and receiver Josh Doctson are both questionable for Saturday's game at No. 7 Oklahoma.

Boykin awkwardly turned his right ankle in Saturday's 23-17 home victory over Kansas and didn't play after halftime.

Josh Doctson injured his left wrist after a catch in the first half of TCU's loss at Oklahoma State on Nov. 7. He played against the Jayhawks, but had only one catch for 12 yards.

Doctson has 79 catches for 1,337 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, but has been limited to only seven catches for 76 yards without a score the last two weeks.

Patterson said Tuesday that redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer could be the likely starter for the 11th-ranked Frogs if Boykin doesn't play.

Lombardi finalists set * Four of the nation's best pass rushers are the finalists for the Lombardi Award given to the nation's top lineman or linebacker, including Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa for the second straight season. …
