Johnsen: Remington Park to Be 'Best Track'

"We're making the claim it will be the best built and - square foot for square foot, dollar for dollar - the best track in the world," Johnsen said, citing the experience of the DeBartolo family in operating horse racetracks and sports franchises and in developing shopping centers.
The track is being developed by Oklahoma Racing Associates, which consists of Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. of Youngstown, Ohio, and his son and daughter.
In addition, Johnsen said Remington Park will benefit from a prime location and more lodging facilities and better entertainment attractions locally than are available near Louisiana Downs, which is also owned by the DeBartolos.
"We realize one of the keys to our success is tourism," he said.
A few events probably will be held at the track during August, prior to the official opening, Johnsen said. The track's first race probably will be for Oklahoma-bred or Oklahoma-foaled thoroughbreds.
Currently, lights for the track have not been planned, he said.
Of the track's exclusive penthouse suites, Johnsen said 18 or 19 would be leased for the entire season, and two or three would be available for group use, including one suite that will be large enough for about 75 people. …
