American Educational Computer Software to Be Marketed by Radio Shack Division
The Reading Skills Development Program (RSDP) by American Educational Computer, a subsidiary of UNICO Inc. of Oklahoma City, is a phonics-based package for grades K-8. The 112-lesson program supports SchoolMate, a local area network for classrooms operated by Tandy Corp., which owns Radio Shack.
Combined with SchoolMate, the Reading Skills program serves as a cost-effective, integrated learning system for reading, officials said.
"RSDP is a comprehensive system that is a strong competitor to IBM's `Writing to Read' program," said W. Douglas Frans, president of UNICO and its subsidiary.
"Our agreement gives Tandy an excellent reading skills program to encourage more sales of their computers and network. We anticipate that this arrangement will produce a wide range of joint sales opportunities for both companies in the near future. …
