Today's entrepreneur is viewed as having the most glamorous position in the business world. Risk taker, innovator, creator.
These characteristics exude an aura of excitement. Who can fail to be thrilled by the success stories of Federal Express, where a whole new industry was created, or of Apple Computer taking on giant IBM?
Though intriguing, entrepreneurship is not for everyone. Several studies have shown a cluster of personality traits common among all successful entrepreneurs. These traits include a need for achievement, persistence, innovative outlook, low need for conformity, high energy level, risk taker and, most importantly, efficiency.
Entrepreneurs are usually workaholics and their entrepreneurial efforts almost always become the focus of their lives. The demands of being successful are so great that these individuals usually have little energy left to devote to personal relationships.
