Kreth Receives OSU Alumni Award
Paul Kreth, president and CEO of Specialty Restaurants, was awarded the 1999 Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Human Environmental Sciences at Oklahoma State University for his achievements in the restaurant industry.
Kreth earned a degree in hotel and restaurant administration from OSU in 1980. After serving with Gilbert Robinson Corp. of Kansas City, Mo., and Val Gene Associates of Oklahoma City, Kreth joined Bruce Anderson, founder of Cajun's Wharf, as partner and later as president and CEO of Restaurant Concepts and Designs, an Arkansas company that operated Shorty Small's Great American Restaurant in Little Rock.
In 1990, Kreth purchased the rights to develop the Shorty Small's concept and now owns and operates six locations in three states -- Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. Another Shorty Small's location is scheduled to open in Oklahoma City this year and plans are on the drawing board for two additional locations in 2000.
Kreth also operates Texanna Reds, a Mexican food restaurant in Oklahoma City.
