Avalon Opens New Correctional Facility
OKLAHOMA CITY (JR) -- Avalon Correctional Services has opened a new 150-bed minimum-security community correctional facility in Tulsa.
The Turley Correctional Center is designed specifically for female offenders. The 33,000-square-foot facility was designed and constructed by Avalon management to meet standards of the American Correctional Association in addition to all state and local standards.
The Turley Correctional Center has made application for accreditation by the American Correctional Association.
The Turley Correctional Center was constructed on the grounds of an existing correctional operation purchased by Avalon in October 1997. The new center replaces six existing structures removed from the property once the new building was completed.
The center contains 14 residential quarters each designed with restroom and laundry facilities. The center also includes a medical center for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. The center is located on 35 acres with a separate recreational center including a gymnasium, said Donald E. Smith, chairman and CEO of Oklahoma City- based Avalon.
"The completion of the Turley Correctional Center represents the realization of a planned step in the growth and expansion of our company," Smith said. …
