New Volume, New Features: Celebrating 2 Decades of Nursing Scholarship

This issue of Research and Theory for Nursing Practice begins its 20th volume, representing 2 decades of advancements in nursing thought and investigation. To celebrate this milestone, the Editorial Board and I are introducing several new features to the journal during this volume year, some beginning with this issue. This editorial describes these features and highlights their contribution to the journal's mission in disseminating research and theory that advance nursing practice internationally.

A new column on evidence-based practice will begin in the second issue of volume 20 of RTNP. The editors of the Springer Publishing Company's recent release, Teaching Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing, Drs. Rona F. Levin and Harriet R. Feldman, both of the lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University in New York, were invited to author this column, which is slated for every issue of the journal. Long-time readers of RTNP will remember Dr. Feldman as the journal's founding editor, and we are pleased that she will continue her investment in the journal in this new capacity. In this column, Levin and Feldman plan to address a range of evidence-based practice issues, including those related to the development and use of evidence-based practice protocols, all of which are of interest to nurse scientists, teachers, and clinicians internationally. With RTNP's focus on the relevance of knowledge development to nursing practice, this new column will bring an added dimension to the journal by emphasizing the link between knowledge and its application to practice. Readers may direct questions and commentary concerning this column, including suggestions for topics, to either Dr. Levin or Dr. Feldman through rtnp@umich.edu.

The second new feature, which begins in this issue, is a book review. The book review feature is being led by RTNP's Book Review Editor, Dr. Elizabeth Beattie, of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, whose experience in nursing practice, education, and science spans the countries of England, Australia, and the US. Books will be selected for review based on their relevance to nursing research and theory and, in so far as possible, to their application to nursing practice and education. …
