Proof that the inimitable charm of former Vice President Al-Gore travels well-like strychnine:
Al Gore has made his sharpest attack yet on the George Bush presidency, describing the current U.S. administration as "a renegade band of rightwing extremists."
In an interview with the Guardian today, the former vice-president calls himself a "recovering politician," hut launches into the political fray more explicitly than he has previously done during his high-profile campaigning on the threat of global warming.
Denying that his politics have shifted to the left since he lost the court battle for the 2000 election, Mr. Gore says: "If you have a renegade band of rightwing extremists who get hold of power, the whole thing goes to the right."

The indispensable Daniel Johnson harvests two humanitarian communiquées from the Hon. Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, to his grateful public:
[On Our President:] "the biggest perpetrator of genocide the world has known... an assassin... an immoral man who should be put in jail by an international court."
[On the Jews:] "The descendants of those who crucified Christ... have taken ownership of the riches of the world, a minority has taken ownership of the gold of the world, the silver, the minerals, water, the good lands, petrol, well, the riches, and they have concentrated the riches in a small number of hands."

On the op-ed page of a great American gazette columnist Miss Rhonda Goebel displays the powers of ratiocination that could make her a leading candidate for the presidency of Harvard State University:
The U.S. has committed the most destructive, egregious acts in modern times, with pride....
The U.S. has attacked and declared "victory" against a slew of nations, set up brutal puppet governments and devastated people for generations. In this way we gain compliance in the world. Hut just as the spanked child who has a defining moment of refusing more mistreatment, the world will have its defining moment with us. Hopefully they will have mercy on us.

In the correspondence section of the controversial Times Mr. Sam Abrarns delivers to President Hugo Chavez a blow beneath the belt:
To the Editor:
Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez (front page. May 20), sounds just like an American president: interfering in the internal affairs of neighboring countries, targeting foreign aid to win influence, setting up trading blocs, broadcasting propaganda. No wonder he stirs up resentment.
