Seagram Meets Health and Safety Objectives with IT-Based Risk Management System
Seagram Distillers plc is implementing an IT-based corporate health and safety risk management system, with help from solution provider PSI encompassing software systems and expert consultancy.
The system is designed to safeguard the wellbeing of 1400 Seagram employees at 20 UK sites, including nine malt distilleries, several maturation warehouse sites, and two packaging plants, as well as heritage facilities and administration offices in Paisley and London.
"To maintain a paper-based health and safety management system, for an organisation distributed over so many sites proved costly and unwieldy. While introducing several new IT systems for business administration, we identified a need for a dedicated health and safety data collection and analysis system", commented group health and safety manager Douglas Wilson.
"We attended a number of product demonstrations, but >8 <7 were swayed by the holistic approach offered by PSI. We were impressed by the calibre of individuals within the PSI organisation, their obvious knowledge of the legislation, and the company's readiness to customise systems to our particular environment.
"A health and safety needs analysis was the next organisation-wide requirement", Douglas Wilson continues. "We needed to establish a specification for our group based on a quantitative and qualitative assessment against international safety ratings. …
