The website is the electronic channel to the Fall Prevention Center of Excellence (FPCE) in California, one of the growing number of statewide fall-prevention coalitions emerging around the United States. These organizations aim to establish fall prevention as a key publichealth priority, .create effective and sustainable fall-prevention programs and build a comprehensive fall-prevention infrastructure.
Established in 2005, FPCE is a consortium of the Andrus Gerontology Center at the University of Southern California; the Center for Successful Aging at California State University, Fullerton; the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center at the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System of Veterans Affairs; the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine; and the State and Local Injury Control section of the California Department of Public Health.
FPCE's stopfalls.org website serves as an online clearinghouse for timely fallprevention information geared toward service providers, researchers, educators and members of the public. For example, the spring 2008 issue of the center's e-newsletter, "FPCE News," includes articles about Canada's initiative to prevent falls, efforts to repair damaged-and dangerous-sidewalks in Los Angeles, the value of tai chi exercise for elders, profiles of best-practice programs and more. …
