The AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES has received $2.5 MILLION from the Wal-Mart Foundation for AACC's Building Better Communities through Regional Economic Development Partnerships initiative. Specifically, the funds will go toward AACC's Center for Workforce Development.
BRYN MAWR (PA.) and SPELMAN COLLEGES (GA.) have received a four-year, $1.1 MILLION grant from the National Science Foundation to support the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education program, a joint venture in the mathematics departments at both schools.
The Tom Joyner Foundation has awarded a group of select historically Black colleges and universities a $1.1 MILLION grant to increase the number of fully certified teachers in minority and hard-to-staff schools across the country. Alabama A&M University; Howard University (D.C.); LeMoyneOwen College (Tenn.); Mississippi Valley State University; Norfolk State University (Va.); and Prairie View A&M University (Texas) will join the four institutions already participating in the teacher development program, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania; Clark Atlanta University (Ga.); Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.); and Johnson C.
