MOVE Productions has been around for five years now and it's continuing to conquer new territory. Last year, for the first time, MOVE expanded by holding two national finals: one in California and one in Chicago. "The time was right for us to expand," says director Jimmy Heywood. "We're branching out."
But that's not all. The Dance Offan exciting culmination of the top scoring routines at Nationals-has doubled in size. In the past, the top 20 routines have faced off for top honors; now, MOVE welcomes the top 40 scoring routines into the Dance Off, which takes place at both Nationals locations.
Heywood, a former competition dancer, is a self-proclaimed perfectionist, and it shows. MOVE events run smoothly and on time. "I want everything to go off without a hitch," Heywood says. "We create a fair, positive experience run by a friendly staff." Heywood has quickly become a familiar face at MOVE. "As the director, I'm constantly walking around the show talking with everyone," he says. "I want people to know that I'm there and I'm available for whatever they need. We really care about the kids and the studios."
MOVE competitions have become known for attracting a diverse range of talent. "We get a little bit of everythingfrom tap to jazz to folkloric routinesand that excites me," Heywood says. MOVE welcomes dancers as young as 3 years old. And at the end of the day. It's the fresh talent that keeps people coming back to MOVE. "It's not about which studio is the biggest or which one brings the most routines," Heywood says. …
