This book contains a wealth of information on memory processes, specifically long-term memory. The author begins by explaining distinctive memory processes and how they relate to learning. He devotes a chapter to the flow of information from the environment to long-term memory and expression of learning. He touches on the role of sensory memory and explains in detail the role of short-termmemory,workmgmemory,and long-term memory in learning. The author offers an in-depth look at howinformation is encoded, processed, transferred, stored, consolidated, and retrieved. He also describes possible problems that prevent information from being stored in memory.

The book devotes a chapter to the neuroanatomy of memory. In this chapter, the author explains the parts of the brain involved in long-term memory and the distinct roles playedby each. He outlines the typical development of long-term memory from infancy to adolescence and he describes the development of specific memory strategies. The author goes on to describe specificmemory dysfunctions and risk factors for long-term memory impairments. He discusses risk factors such as traumatic brain injury, brain lesions, prematurity, learning disabilities, mental disorders, and substance abuse.

Following a description of memory impairments, the author provides a guide to the assessment of long-term memory. He discusses the different memory processes that should be assessed, challenges to the assessment process, components of the assessment, and finally, how to interpret test results. …
