CF Says Diners Entitled to Better Booking Services from Restaurants

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Consumers' Foundation (CF) yesterday urged restaurant owners to avoid customers forming long lines by providing better reservation services, as dining-out reaches its holiday season peak.

According to the CF, many restaurants refuse to accept reservations, while others impose a time limit or minimum purchase requirement for diners.

"That is not a friendly gesture toward the customer, especially when some restaurants do not inform customers beforehand," foundation Chairman Mark Chang ([...]) said.

"Long lines causes chaotic traffic and do not even mean the food is especially good or your business is good," he said.

CF Secretary-General Lei Li-fen ([...]) said that, from a consumer rights perspective, many restaurants do not offer the service that diners are entitled to.

According to a random survey of 20 restaurants conducted by the foundation, five restaurants did not offer reservation services, 45 percent imposed time and minimum purchase limits, and only eight stores posted related information on their websites.

Chang reminded restaurant owners that according to the Consumer Protection Act, business operators are required to inform customers of the terms and conditions of their purchase at least 30 days prior to the consumer taking action, such as visiting a dining establishment. …
