Livestock Feeds and Feeding is designed to provide readers with a basic understanding of principles relating to livestock feeding, including information for major livestock and companion animal species. The 23 chapters are grouped into five parts, which include: 1) Introduction, 2) Feeds for Livestock, 3) Livestock Species, 4) Feeding Other Domesticated Species, and 5) Appendix Tables and Glossary.

The Introduction (part one) begins with an overview chapter that discusses the rationale for studying animal nutrition and feeding, and subsequent chapters discuss anatomy of domestic animals and nutrient metabolism. The second part, Feeds for Livestock is the largest section containing nine chapters that discuss a variety of topics including feed characteristics and classifications, supplementation, feed additives, feed laws and labeling, feed processing, and ration formulation. This edition differs from the previous editions by adding a small section discussing plant metabolism and separating feed laws and labeling from the feed processing chapter. Furthermore, the ration formulation chapter has been enhanced to include a discussion of computer modeling and the future of ration formulation. Species specific discussions include swine, poultry, dairy cows, dairy calves and replacement heifers, beef cow herd, growing-finishing cattle, horses, sheep, goats, companion animals, and rabbits. The appendix tables cover the nutrient requirements for many species and composition of common feedstuffs. The final component is a glossary of over 300 terms relating to animal nutrition and feeding. …
