Administration Division Report
The Administration Division exists to support the needs of career and technical education administrators at all education levels. Our division is currently made up of over 4,634 members and we have three affiliated organizations: The National Council of Local Administrators (NCLA), National Council of Large City Directors of Vocational Education (NALCATE), and the Vocational Education Equity Council (VEEC).
Administrators of career and technical education today face a number of challenges as state budgets are cut and educational priorities and methods are under pressure to change. For 2003-2004, some of the principle objectives established by the policy committee to help members meet these challenges include the following:
* Communicate developments, plans, policies and issues in the administration area to help members make better decisions for their schools in this new climate of needing to accomplish more with fewer resources.
* Promote high professional standards among our division membership by providing opportunities for professional growth to meet the special interests of the division members.
* Enhance professional development opportunities for division members by building bridges to other ACTE divisions, education agencies, organizations and institutions.
* Work with states and regions to identify young administrators to serve on the division's policy committee and ACTE standing committees.
* Expand efforts to improve the perception of career and technical education.
* Provide guidance to help reposition the ACTE Annual Convention to be more inclusive in addressing the needs of all aspects of ACTE as well as the professional development needs of related organizations. It is important that we constantly deliver educational experiences that inspire professional growth and surpass member expectations.
It is important that members of the Administration Division continue to expand efforts to identify and develop future leaders for career and technical education and the association, and to enhance networking in the education and business community to continually communicate the true value of career and technical education at all levels.
As the new ACTE Administration Division Vice President, I will continue to focus on the strategic plan developed by the organization and continue to support the goals of the Administration Division as developed by the policy committee. I am extremely confident that under the exceptional leadership of Jan Bray and her outstanding professional staff at the ACTE headquarters, the organization will continue to move forward in innovative and positive directions in supporting the needs of state associations, regions, divisions, individual members, and all other key individuals and organizations involved in supporting and expanding career and technical education.
Region III Report
ACTE Region III is a geographic region comprised of six unique states in the upper Midwest. Each state has its own challenges and each has its own strengths. Like ACTE, Region III boasts excellence in each of the disciplines of career and technical education. Our state conferences showcase the best examples of teaching at the secondary and postsecondary levels. Shining examples of career guidance practices abound, as do leadership and service activities undertaken by our career and technical education student organizations.
But what makes ACTE Region III valuable is the linking together of like-minded individuals in their support for the broad picture of career and technical education, and the way the region can bring these individuals together to share ideas and practices.
* Illinois ACTE is noted for its strong background in the legislative and advocacy arena and the way it musters grassroots support for career and technical education programs.
* Indiana ACTE has done much to link with guidance and boasts the Indiana Gold Star School Counselor program as a means to recognize this essential part of the education picture. …
