Barbara Coloroso explores the relevant and prominent issue of bullying in this easily accessible and informative book. Using Shakespeare's stage metaphor from his play, As You Like It, Coloroso demonstrates how everyone in the community has a vital role to play in the serious and tragic everyday occurrence of bullying. Each chapter is organized into a clear progression from defining to understanding the roles a child has in the tragic play: bully, bullied and bystander. Each definition is followed with parental strategies for the role their child may be playing, as well as the school community's role in helping break the cycle of violence. For example, she explains that parents "can rechannel the behaviours of the bully into positive leadership activities; acknowledge the nonaggressive behaviours of the bullied child as strengths that can be developed and that are honoured; and transform the role of the bystander into that of a witness, someone to stand up, speak out, and act against injustice" (p.202).
