Couple Opens New Plumbing, Appliance-Repair Business in Topeka

Chilson, Morgan, The Topeka Capital-Journal

Happy holidays! Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah or the Prophet's Birthday, we've moved into the next round of observances that will end with New Year's Eve and the beginning of 2018.

I love this time of the year, even though my editor made me get up and do the Black Friday shopping story at 5:30 a.m. It was actually kind of fun, and although we hear stories about people fighting over pillows, in general, I've found the crowds to be good-natured and slap-happy because they're tired. One thing I like about this time of year is seeing the generosity of area businesses, where employees and owners come together to do good things. Nov. 28 is Giving Tuesday this year, an opportunity for individuals and businesses to open their wallets and their hearts to meet the needs of area nonprofits. Amazing things are done through this program every year.

"If you have your master's, you can open up your own business," Loreena Potts said. "He passed in July 2016, and we started working on the process to get the business going. …
