This semiannual column selectively lists new periodicals; describes their objectives, formats, and contents; and provides information about special issues; title and format changes, mergers, and cessations. NEW TITLES

The Journal of Creative Music Systems is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal in the new field of the Computer Simulation of Musical Creativity. As such, this journal focuses on "computer systems which generate, perform, or analyse music, and which either demonstrate a distinct degree of creativity or which shed light on the nature of creativity."

Journal contents are divided into four categories: articles, research reports, reviews, and tutorials. While articles are substantial and provide a major contribution to the knowledge, research reports are shorter and describe research that is still in a preliminary phase. Reviews cover books, articles, and events such as conferences, and tutorials illustrate new technologies in the field. As it is an online journal, the editors encourage authors to take advantage of the opportunity to include multimedia elements such as sound recordings, videos, graphics, and hyperlinks.

The inaugural issue features an opening editorial, two articles, and three research reports. The first article presents a new adaptive modular melodic harmonization system, while the second article builds upon and ties together previous work on the musification of complex biological or biomedical data. The research reports discuss the technical development of a Vocal Tract Organ, the significance of temporal information in the measurement of musical similarity, and a proposed framework for sonic creativity through the use of contemporary technology and computational research. There are not any reviews or tutorials in the inaugural issue.

The Journal of Creative Music Systems is published biannually by the University of Huddersfield Press. All content is free to access and is published under a Creative Commons license that permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction.

At the time of this writing, Journal of Creative Music Systems is not indexed in Ulrich's, nor is it included in the Directory of Open Access Journals. However, a bibliographic record is available in WorldCat (OCLC #961477608).
