New members are surprised to be given the same Just for Today and Recovery Programme (to apply to their lives) as is given to Gamblers Anonymous members. (see Appendix) Often the GamAnon member finds out that she too needs to change her personality because all too often she may have become bitter and unforgiving, taking her frustrations out on her loved ones. We learn that even if our respective partners stop gambling, it doesn't mean that all problems disappear overnight, or are solved! Many gamblers who go to G.A. take months or years to stop gambling, and some, unfortunately, never succeed. However, suggestions are made by long-standing members on how best to live with the compulsive gambler. GamAnon is concerned with rebuilding shattered lives and helping members to stand on their own two feet, whether or not the compulsive gambler arrests his gambling.
