The three chapters comprising this initial section of the book include an introductory chapter, a chapter that reviews the history and early development of Coventry, and a third chapter that presents an overview of the massive November 14/15 Luftwaffe aerial attack on the city. This raid was aimed at the industrial base of England and represented yet another in a series of fundamental shifts in the overall German strategy of bombing the British. This continual shifting in their bombing objectives ultimately proved to be one of the major errors committed by the Germans during the Battle of Britain.
Much misinformation and many fallacies still remain today regarding the Coventry raid and the circumstances and events leading up to the attack. This opening section identifies several of these fallacies and highlights a number of possible reasons why so much false information still exists relating to this truly significant World War II bombing raid.
