economy produces no clear cleavage structures, no crystallized interests for parties and politicians to appeal to, and hence little prospect of an economic vision (as opposed to a nationalist or some other political vision) dominating any future electoral agenda. In the meantime, there seems to be little that the government can do--and little that it actually wants to do.
