Gentrification, Displacement, and Neighborhood Revitalization

By J. John Palen; Bruce London | Go to book overview

Others have argued, eloquently, that the elderly are important resources for our neighborhoods and cities ( Holman 1978). Still others have prescribed specific strategies to diffuse the impact of gentrification or to better protect or compensate those who are being displaced ( Clay 1979; Gale 1978b). The public policy implications of this study come in the way of highlighting and providing more precise descriptions of the problem, rather than in pinpointing specific remedies. The trends suggested in this analysis, though, are neither so forceful nor so well advanced as to preempt effective intervention if the committment to take action is made.
