Obsessive-compulsive homophobes are really sexophobes who criticize themselves and others for having a body that has a physical side. They condemn gay and straight sex alike as sinful, immoral, and revolting. The only exception they make is out of necessity: okaying sex "in the family way," in the missionary position, in the dark, within the confines of marriage, and for the purpose of procreation. All other kinds of sex, gay sex in particular, they condemn. As Morris ( 1967), expressing himself from the narrow anthropomorphic perspective of the zoologist applying animal models to human behavior might say, for such individuals "the primary function of sexual behaviour is to reproduce the species and this is something that the formation of homosexual pairs patently fails to do" (p. 93).

Because they believe No Birth Control = No Sex [a] 19th Century Retro-Vision. [They] are promoting the 19th Century idea that sex is somehow 'dirty.' They believe women must be punished if a couple has sex when they aren't 'trying for a baby'" (p. A11).
Obsessive-compulsive homophobes display their sexophobic ideas in the form of rigid and repetitive rituals. The following rituals are among the most commonly found:
